Pager Attack Unit 2800: After the name of Unit 2800 came up in the pager attack case, the big countries of the world have started acknowledging its power. Know what it does...

The pager attacks have caused great damage to Hezbollah.

Lebanon Pager Explosion: The massive pager attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon has put everyone's attention on the Israeli army's secret Unit 8200. A Western security source said that it was involved in planning the operation. Israel has not said anything in this matter so far. On Tuesday, 12 people were killed and thousands of Hezbollah people were injured in the pager attack. At least one person was killed on Wednesday when a hand-held radio used by Hezbollah exploded.

What did Unit 8200 do?

A senior Lebanese security source and another source told Reuters that Israel's intelligence agency Mossad was also involved in the operation to put small amounts of explosives inside 5,000 Hezbollah pagers. A Western security source said that Unit 8200 is an Israeli military unit. It is not a part of Mossad. Unit 8200 was involved in the development stage of the operation against Hezbollah. It took more than a year to make this plan. The source said that Unit 8200 was involved in the technical side of the operation as to how they could put explosive material inside the pagers.

Israel denied

The Israeli military has declined to comment. The prime minister's office, which oversees the Mossad, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Yossi Kuperwasser, a former military intelligence officer and now research director at the Israel Defense and Security Forum, said there was no confirmation that the military intelligence unit was involved in the attack, but he said members of the 8200 are among the Israeli military's best and brightest, serving in a unit at the heart of Israel's defense capabilities.

There is not much talk about 8200

"The challenges they face are very big, very difficult and we need the best people to join this unit," Yossi Kuperwasser said. The unit recruits people who are young and adept at gathering intelligence through technology. It is often compared to the US National Security Agency. The unit's activities are never talked about. In a rare public statement, the IDF said in 2018 that Unit 8200 had helped thwart an Islamic State airstrike on a Western country. At the time, it was reported that the unit's operations range from intelligence gathering and cyber defense to preventing "technical attacks and attacks."

What else has 8200 done?

Unit 8200 was also said to be involved in the Stuxnet attack, which disabled Iranian nuclear centrifuges, as well as other high-profile operations outside Israel. The unit is effectively Israel's early warning system, and like the rest of the defense and security establishment, shoulders some of the blame for failing to detect Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel. Its commander said last week that he was stepping down. In his resignation letter, he said he had not accomplished his mission.

Are these the features of 8200?

The unit is renowned for its work culture, which emphasises out-of-the-box thinking to tackle issues that have not been encountered or imagined before. It has produced people who have built some of the biggest companies in Israel's high-tech sector. Whether it's vulnerabilities in software or math, encryption problems or the problem of hacking anything, they are experts in it all.
