US President Donald Trump is busy increasing friendship with Russia. He also spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Wednesday. Both leaders will hold further talks to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said that he and Putin will have more talks in the coming months. He said that he will also meet Putin in Saudi Arabia.

While Trump is busy increasing friendship, Putin has received a big threat from NATO. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned Putin that if Moscow attacks any NATO member country, it will be given a befitting reply.

What did the NATO boss say?

In recent years, officials from NATO member countries, including Rutte, have accused Russia of making aggressive plans. However, Putin has repeatedly denied this. Responding to questions from journalists at a press conference in Brussels, Rutte said, "If Putin attacks NATO, the response will be devastating. He will lose. He should not try this."

In fact, the question arose after a report by Denmark's Defense Intelligence Service regarding Russian aggression. According to the report, Moscow will be ready to launch a large-scale attack on Europe within five years of the Ukraine war ending or coming to an end.

What did the US Defense Minister say on Ukraine?

At the same time, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dashed Ukraine's hopes, saying during his visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels that Ukraine's hopes of NATO membership were impractical. Hegseth made it clear that European countries would have to bear the responsibility of any security guarantee for Ukraine.

Allies are eager to know how much military and financial aid Washington is willing to provide to Ukraine in the coming times. Hegseth told them that President Donald Trump wants European countries to take charge of providing most of the military and financial aid to Ukraine.

Addressing the group of 50 countries, Hegseth said, the members of this contact group have to face this moment. These countries have been providing support to Ukraine since Russia's 2022 invasion. The previous US Joe Biden administration supported Ukraine's NATO membership along with many other European countries after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
