After the fall of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is trying its best to distance itself from India. Every day, Bangladesh officials are meeting with China and Pakistan on different issues and the visits are continuing. On Wednesday, Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI chief General Asif Malik reached Dhaka. This is the first visit of a Pakistani intelligence chief to Bangladesh after decades.

Malik, who arrived in Dhaka via Dubai, was welcomed by Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General Mohammad Faizur Rahman, who is believed to have alleged links with Islamists and Pakistan. The ISI's visit has raised security concerns on India's eastern and northeastern borders. The purpose of this visit is to share intelligence between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Experts are also looking at this visit as an attempt to promote activities against India. The army is also looking for an alternative to India for Bangladesh trade and for this it is in talks with China and Pakistan.

Why did the ISI chief reach Bangladesh?

Indian security experts believe the purpose of Malik's visit is to establish an intelligence-sharing network to create unrest in India through cross-border subversive activities.

Before the visit of the ISI Chief, a meeting has also taken place between Pakistan Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir and Bangladesh Army General. This new military engagement has come after the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the student movement last year, which has become a cause of concern for India.

Increased concern for India

Pakistan has been trying to spread unrest in India by promoting terrorists on its border every day. After military closeness with Bangladesh, India may have to face terrorist activities on the Bangladesh border.
