More than 200 earthquakes have been felt on Santorini Island of Greece in just three days from Friday to Sunday. According to officials, the intensity of the strongest earthquake in these earthquakes has been measured up to 4.6.

As a precaution, schools have been closed in Santorini as well as the nearby Amorgos and Anafi islands. In view of the earthquake, people in all the affected areas in the country have become alert. Officials have advised all people to avoid large indoor gatherings and stay away from many ports including the old port of Fira, just below the island's capital. Along with this, according to experts, the earthquake tremors coming for three consecutive days are pointing towards a major disaster.

Tourism was not affected

While Santorini Island has felt many tremors this time, on the other hand, this is not the first time that this has happened. Earthquake tremors have been felt on Santorini Island before as well. Despite the continuous tremors, the number of tourists on this island is not affected. More than 20 thousand people live on the island. At the same time, more than 34 lakh tourists visit the island every year. This island is considered the best destination for holidays.

Tremors of earthquake were felt earlier also

Due to these circumstances, the Emergency Committee in the country held a meeting on Sunday. After this, the next meeting will be held on Monday. Santorini is part of the Hellenic Volcanic Arc, which is one of the most active volcanic regions in Europe. Officials said that the earthquakes felt recently, more than 200, have been caused by tectonic activities. Earlier, the strongest earthquake tremors on Santorini Island were felt in the year 1956. This year the magnitude was measured at 7.5. 53 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in these tremors. Along with this, one-third of the houses on the island collapsed and people suffered heavy losses.
