Based on the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries at the Kazan meeting, Chinese special representative Wang Yi (member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office) and Indian special representative and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held positive and constructive talks on the China-India boundary issue and reached six consensuses.
The two sides positively reviewed the solutions reached so far on the border issues and stressed that the work to implement these solutions should continue. They reiterated that the border issue should be handled properly in the overall context of bilateral relations so that it does not affect the development of bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to continue taking measures to maintain peace and stability in the border areas and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
The two sides reiterated their commitment to finding a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary issue, in accordance with the political guidelines agreed by the Special Representatives on resolving the boundary issue in 2005. They agreed to take positive steps to move this process forward.
Assessing the border situation, the two sides agreed to further refine the management and control rules in the border area, strengthen confidence building measures and achieve lasting peace and stability along the border.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cross-border exchanges and cooperation, resumption of Indian pilgrims' pilgrimage to Tibet in China (Kailash Mansarovar Yatra), promote cross-border river cooperation and Nathula border trade.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen the building of the Special Representatives meeting mechanism, enhance coordination and cooperation in diplomatic and military talks, and direct the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs (WMCC) to implement the outcomes of this Special Representatives meeting.
The two sides agreed to hold a new meeting of special representatives in India next year. The exact date of the meeting will be decided through diplomatic channels.
In addition, the two sides held extensive and in-depth discussions on bilateral, international, and regional issues. They stressed the importance of a stable, predictable, and positive China-India relationship for international and regional peace and stability.
