The coup in Syria has taken place and it is being seen as a big victory for the rebel groups who were fighting against the Assad government for years. Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, the head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has become the hero of the anti-Assad campaign that began on November 27. However, in this battle, dozens of rebel groups were fighting together against the Assad army.

Jolani, who arrived in Damascus on Sunday just hours after his rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) seized the capital, delivered a victory speech at the Umayyad Mosque, declaring that the rebels had toppled the government of tyrant Bashar al-Assad.

What did Julani say in his victory speech?

"The Assad regime has imprisoned thousands of its own citizens unjustly and without any crime. We (the Syrian people) are the real owners of this country. We have been fighting and today we have been rewarded with this victory," Jolani told a crowd gathered at the Umayyad Mosque.

Al-Julani further asked the people, "How many people were displaced around the world? How many are living in tents? How many drowned in the sea? My brothers, a new history is being written in the entire region after this great victory." He told the people that hard work will have to be done to create a new Syria which will be a 'lighthouse for the Islamic nation'. In this address, he also criticized Iran's interference in Syria.

thank god for the victory

In his speech, he called for thanking God and praying for the victory. He said that Allah will not disappoint you, this victory is for all Syrian people. They were all a part of this victory.

Since the beginning of their offensive, al-Julani and HTS have tried to change the perception that they are seen as a terrorist organization. Since the beginning of their offensive, they have focused on a message of unity, and this was emphasized in al-Julani's speech at the Umayyad Mosque. However, countries like the United States, the European Union and Turkey still consider HTS a terrorist organization.
