The situation in Syria is getting worse day by day and most of the Syrian region is gradually slipping out of the hands of the Assad government. After the city of Aleppo, the rebels also captured Hama and Darra and now they are moving towards Homs. The Syrian army is continuously leaving the region and retreating towards the capital Damascus.

With the army retreating, rebel groups are occupying military bases and positions and seizing army weapons. It is reported that rebels have attacked and captured several MiG-23 fighter planes of the Syrian Air Force, along with other air and ground equipment of the Syrian army.

MiG-23 in rebel hands

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters seized several MiG-23 fighter planes from Aleppo's Neyrab airbase. Several photos and videos of the rebels' capture of the airbase have been posted on social media site X. In one such video, a rebel fighter plane can be seen climbing onto a MiG-23. Please note that the plane does not appear to be in working condition in the video.

Some war-tracking and open source intelligence (OSINT) accounts said at least four of these aircraft, along with an unknown number of L-39 and Mi-8 helicopters, had been seized, while others said the rebels had seized about seven MiG-23s at several air bases. However, these claims have not been confirmed by any concrete sources.

Syria is being taken over by rebels!

Rebels have captured Aleppo, Hama, and Darraa since resuming the fight against the Assad government on November 27. Fighters from the al-Qaeda-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group are fighting against the Assad government along with several smaller extremist groups.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is banned by the United Nations, the US, and other Western countries, but despite this, the group is getting support from the US and Turkey. Although the different rebel groups fighting with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham have different ideologies, their cooperation is based on the common agenda of removing Assad from power. At the same time, the Assad government has the support of the Shia militias of the region including Russia, and Iran.
