Macron posted on social media platform X and described Pavel Durov's arrest as non-political. He has written that false information is being spread about Pavel Durov's arrest. France is committed to freedom of expression and communication and will always remain so.

Macron said that the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov on French soil was done as part of a judicial investigation and it is not political in any way. In this post, Macron, Elon Musk tweeted, "It would have been better if you had given more information to people around the world about the reason for his arrest."

Why was Pavel Durov arrested?

The French government refused to give information related to Durov's arrest, saying that this matter is under the jurisdiction of the judiciary and the judiciary is doing its work with complete independence. Pavel arrived in Paris from Azerbaijan on his private jet on August 24. According to French media, a warrant had already been issued for his arrest.

According to the latest information, 12 criminal charges have been leveled against Telegram CEO Pavel Durov. These include many cases including pornography, organizational fraud, and drug trafficking. Pavel is accused of failing to moderate content on the messaging app Telegram, due to which this platform became a hub of illegal activities.
