China has tested an ICBM missile (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) in the sea after 44 years. This test was done in the Pacific Ocean. The missile traveled thousands of kilometers and achieved its target. According to the Chinese Defence Ministry, the Rocket Force launched the ICBM missile in the Pacific Ocean. This ICBM missile had a dummy warhead. The missile fell in the same sea area where it was expected. This launch was part of our annual training exercise. This launch is in accordance with international law. It was not targeted towards any country.

The reason behind this clarification by China is the questions that have arisen after this test. Questions are being raised about whether this missile was fired at America or whether was it merely a warning from China to America.

There are two big reasons for these burning questions.

  • China did not give any information to any country before the test
  • China's first ICBM test in international waters since 1980

China last tested a missile in international waters in 1980. After that, China never tested an ICBM missile in the sea. It is claimed that China did not inform any country about the test. However, China claims that a notice was sent to Japan regarding this test. But Japan has clearly denied receiving any notice. Not only this, China has also not clarified which intercontinental ballistic missile it tested and neither has it clarified how much distance it covered.

The missile launch has come at a time when China is angry about the new US missile system seen in the Indo-Pacific region earlier this year. Chinese officials have complained about it several times. The US Army has also deployed its Typhoon missile system in the Philippines in April. In such a situation, China's test is being considered a big warning for America.
