Iran has lifted the ban on using WhatsApp and Google Play. According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian government has lifted this ban after more than two years. The country's Supreme Council of Cyberspace took this decision in a meeting held under the leadership of reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian. In that meeting, he talked about lifting the ban on social media.
Iran's Telecommunications Minister Sattar Hashemi said in a post on X that this decision is the first step towards removing such restrictions. Further steps will also be taken regarding this, with the help of which the possibility of unblocking other services can increase.
What is the stance on implementing the hijab law?
For the time being, the hijab law will not be implemented on women in Iran. It has been banned for now. This law was accepted by the parliament there in September 2022, but now it will not be sent to the government.
