India will get state-of-the-art weapons from the Modi-Trump meeting, know what will be the benefit to the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington DC on February 13. In this important meeting, there will be discussion on further strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries. Defense trade and military partnership between India and America has grown rapidly in the last few years. This meeting is likely to strengthen it further.
India and the US share a shared strategic vision, particularly to ensure freedom and security in the Indo-Pacific region. In 2016, the US granted India Major Defense Partner status, which accelerated the transfer of defense equipment and technology between the two countries. In addition, in 2018, India received Strategic Trade Authorization Tier-1 (STA-1) status, giving India more convenient access to military and dual-use technologies.
India can get these modern weapons
India has a proposal to buy advanced fighter aircraft like F-21, Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-15EX Eagle. These aircraft will increase the strength of the Indian Air Force and strengthen military coordination with America.
Advanced helicopters and drones for the Navy
The US is likely to supply MH-60R Seahawk helicopters (a $2.8 billion deal) and Sea Guardian Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), which will enhance the Indian Navy's reconnaissance and tactical capabilities.
Modern security systems and weapons
India has already purchased Apache attack helicopters ($796 million) and Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure ($189 million). Further expansion of these defence deals may be discussed in this meeting.
Joint military exercises and training
The US and India are strengthening strategic partnership through tri-service exercises like Tiger Triumph and naval exercises like Malabar. In this meeting, there may be an agreement to further expand these military exercises.
How will India-US defence cooperation increase?
The purchase of weapons and defense technology will be facilitated under Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales (DCS). More US military training and technical knowledge can be made available to India under the IMET (International Military Education and Training) program.
Both countries can discuss making agreements like LEMOA (Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement), COMCASA (Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement) and ISA (Industrial Security Agreement) more effective.
Indo-Pacific Strategy and Global Power Balance
The US and India can further strengthen security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region to balance the growing influence of China under the common goal.
Plans can be made to further advance the security strategy with the QUAD countries America, India, Japan and Australia.
Under the Bay of Bengal Initiative, additional military assistance may be provided to strengthen maritime security of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Advantages of India-US defense relations
- The capacity of the Indian Army will increase.
- There will be easy access to modern defence technology.
- Military exercises and interoperability will improve.
- There will be a strategic advantage over opponents like China and Pakistan.
For India, this opportunity is like icing on the cake, meaning India will get a chance to strengthen its defence needs, while the strategy of encircling China within the Quad will give India open support from America.
