After which allegations were being made that the army had rigged the elections in connivance with PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz). Now the US Parliament has also approved an investigation into this.

According to ANI report, the US Parliament on Wednesday passed a resolution in support of democracy and human rights in Pakistan and called for an independent investigation into allegations of rigging in Pakistan's 2024 elections. 98 percent votes have been cast in favor of the resolution in the House. Apart from this, the resolution urges US President Joe Biden to cooperate with Pakistan to maintain democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

Message to Pakistan government

The proposal was titled 'Expressing support for democracy and human rights in Pakistan'. The proposal was introduced by Congressmen McCormick of Georgia and Kildee of Michigan and more than 100 MPs sponsored it.

The official statement of the resolution said, "It underscores the importance of maintaining democratic values ​​and respecting the rights of the people of Pakistan as they face economic instability and security threats." The statement further reads that the resolution's near unanimous passage is a clear message to the Pakistani government that the US stands with the people of Pakistan for democracy, free and fair elections, and respect for individual freedoms and human rights.

Pakistan government responded

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on this proposal. The statement says that this proposal has been brought with an incomplete understanding of the country's political situation and electoral process. The ministry said that we believe that the timing and context of this particular proposal does not match the positive dynamics of our bilateral relations.
