How did this secret letter from Russia increase the tension of Indians amid the war with Ukraine?

The troubles of Indians stuck in the midst of the war between Russia and Ukraine are not going to end. A letter issued by Russia has increased the tension of the people there even more. Jagdeep, brother of Mandeep stuck in Russia, told that in the letter issued, the Russian government made Indians recruited in the army sign a contract, which states that as long as the war in Russia continues, Indians will remain in the army and their contract will keep getting auto renewed.

In August 2024, a letter was sent by the Indian government to Russia, in which the Russian government considered the letter and released some Indians, but some Indians are still stranded in Russia.

Jagdeep said that all the Indians stranded there are not able to come to India under auto renewal. Recently, the DNA test of the relatives of the Indians stranded in Russia has been done by the Indian government, the report of which is yet to come.

What's in Russia's recent order?

Talking to TV9 Punjab over the phone, Mandeep's brother Jagdeep said that after the DNA report, he himself will leave for Russia to pick up his brother. Jagdeep told that the letter issued states that during the period of military service, honestly fulfill all the general, official and special duties of military personnel established by legislative and other regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation.

Russia further wrote in the letter that in accordance with Article 34.1 of Federal Law No. 53-FZ of 01-1998 “On Military Duty and Military Service” (selected Federal Law No. 53-FZ), conscripts must undergo testing within 3 months from the date of entering military service under a contract to verify compliance with the requirements of federal laws, general military regulations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and other regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation that determine the general, official and special duties of military personnel.

Ensures the observance of the rights of a soldier who has entered into a contract and the rights of his family members, including the receipt of social benefits and compensations established by legislative and other regulatory acts of the Russian Federation that determine the status of a soldier undergoing military service.

The letter states that the total duration of the weekly service time of a military personnel serving under a contract should not exceed the normal duration of the weekly working time established by federal laws and other regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation. In other cases, the participation of military personnel in the performance of military service duties in excess of the established duration of weekly service time is compensated by rest of the corresponding duration on other days of the week.

If it is impossible to provide the specified compensation, the time spent performing military service duties in accordance with the established duration of weekly service time is summed up and provided to military personnel as additional days of rest, which can be added to the main leave at the request of the specified military personnel.

The soldier is provided with additional rest time in accordance with Article 11 of Federal Law No. 76-13 or is paid monetary compensation for attending events held when necessary without limiting the total duration of weekly service time.
