Horrific road accident in Afghanistan, 21 dead, 38 injured in collision between three vehicles

At least 21 people have been killed and 38 others injured in a road accident in southern Afghanistan. A statement from the department in Helmand said the accident occurred Sunday morning in the Gerashk district of Helmand province on the main highway between southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces.

Kadratullah, a traffic official in Helmand, said a motorcycle collided with a passenger bus, which then collided with a fuel tank on the opposite side of the road. He said the accident is under investigation.

Hazatullah Haqqani, spokesman for the Helmand police chief, said that of the 38 injured, 11 were transferred to hospitals with serious injuries. Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, mainly due to poor road conditions and driver negligence.
