Rocket attack on Israeli base.

The militant Hezbollah group shot down an Israeli drone and fired rockets at a military base over southern Lebanon on Saturday. At least one person has been killed and several others injured in Israeli drone attacks.

Hezbollah said in a statement that its fighters attacked a Hermes 900 Kochav drone, which has been targeting militants and civilian homes. Firing has intensified along the Lebanon-Israel border in recent weeks, with Israel's military attack on Gaza's southern city of Rafah.

Air-to-Air Missile

The Israeli military said the surface-to-air missile was fired towards a drone operating in Lebanese airspace, causing it to collide with the drone and fall into Lebanese territory. The military said the incident was under review. The Hermes 900 Kochav is a medium-altitude and long-endurance drone that can carry four anti-tank guided missiles.

Attack with Burkan rockets

Hezbollah said on Saturday that its fighters attacked an Israeli army base in the border town of Kiryat Shmona with Burkan rockets, setting it on fire and destroying parts of it. Burkan rockets can carry warheads weighing between 300 kilograms and 500 kilograms.

The Israeli military confirmed that a rocket struck a military base in Kiryat Shmona. Israeli media reported a rocket attack on Kiryat Shmona and released photos showing significant damage to infrastructure. No casualties were reported.

Two people killed in Israeli drone attack

Earlier on Saturday, the state-run National News Agency said two people were injured in an Israeli drone attack on a motorcycle near the southern Lebanese village of Khirbet Selm. The agency reported another drone attack on a village near the southern town of Nabatiyah on Saturday afternoon. A woman was killed and several others were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the coastal village of Adloun on Friday evening, the agency said.

Late Saturday, Israeli warplanes struck areas west of the northeastern city of Baalbek, lightly wounding two people, the agency said. Such attacks inside Lebanon and far from the Israeli border have been rare since the latest round of fighting began nearly eight months ago. Saturday night's attack was about 100 kilometers from the Israeli border.

More than 400 people died in Lebanon

Hezbollah began attacking Israeli military checkpoints along the Lebanon-Israel border a day after the Israel-Hamas war began on 7 October. Since then, thousands of people have been displaced on both sides of the border. Over the past seven months, more than 400 people have been killed in Lebanon, most of them combatants but also more than 70 civilians and non-combatants. In Israel, 15 soldiers and 10 civilians have been killed since October.
