From 7 October 2023 to 15 January 2025… 46 thousand deaths in Gaza and 1139 in Israel, know how much loss on which side.

The long-running war between Israel and Hamas in the Gulf region is now on the verge of ending. The two sides have reached an agreement on a long-pending ceasefire. Both sides are busy finalizing this agreement, which includes the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza in the first phase. However, both sides have suffered heavy loss of life and property in the 15-month-long war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that an agreement had been reached to return hostages in the Gaza Strip, hours after his office said a last-minute Hamas backtracking on key conditions had put the ceasefire deal on hold.
War after Hamas attack on 7 October
This war took a terrible turn after Hamas unexpectedly attacked Israel on 7 October 2023. About 1,200 people were killed in this attack by Hamas while 250 others were taken hostage. After this, Israel carried out rapid retaliatory attacks, in which Palestine suffered heavy losses.
According to Palestinian health officials, more than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in the Israeli retaliatory action, while an estimated 90 percent of Gaza's population had to be displaced. Not only this, a serious humanitarian crisis also arose in the region.
There has been a lot of bleeding since then.
The war between Israel and Hamas resulted in heavy bloodshed in both the regions. From 7 October 2023 to 15 January 2025, 1,139 people lost their lives in Israel while 8,730 people were injured. On the contrary, Israel's retaliatory action saw massive destruction in the Gaza region. Israel did not stop its attacks amid global criticism and a large number of people died. 46,707 people lost their lives on the Palestinian side in the Gaza Strip, while 110,265 people were injured. More than half of the dead are women and children.
Israel's rapid military campaign leveled large areas of Gaza. Most of the buildings in the area have been razed to the ground. 90% of Gaza's population of about 2.3 million has been driven from their homes. Thousands of people are struggling with hunger and disease in dirty tent camps on the coast, far from their homes.
Meanwhile, in November last year, there was a ceasefire between the two sides for a week. During this time, more than 100 hostages were released from Gaza.
release each other's hostages
After the new developments in the Gaza Strip, Israeli PM Netanyahu said that he will call a meeting of his security cabinet today on Friday and then the government will give its approval to the long-awaited hostage agreement. With this statement of Netanyahu, it has become clear that this agreement will get approval from Israel.
Under this agreement, the war in the Gaza Strip will also stop and dozens of hostages held by terrorists in Gaza will be released. Both sides will release each other's hostages. After this agreement, thousands of displaced Palestinians will also get a chance to return to their homes in the Gaza region.
Attacks also increased amid the agreement
However, Gaza's Health Ministry claimed on Thursday that at least 72 people have lost their lives in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire agreement was announced. It is being said that both sides have intensified their military action before the ceasefire comes into effect. The ministry says that these figures after these attacks include only the number of bodies brought to 2 hospitals in Gaza city, while the actual number could be much higher than this.
PM Netanyahu said that he has instructed a special task force to be ready to take hostages returning from the Gaza Strip, and their families have been informed that an agreement has been reached with Hamas. US President Joe Biden and Qatar are playing the role of key mediators for the agreement between the two sides.
