'Friendship' with Hamas is not acceptable! Is Netanyahu's throne shaking due to the deal?

After 15 months, a ceasefire deal has been reached between Hamas and Israel, but while on one hand, the ceasefire has started, on the other hand, Prime Minister Netanyahu's troubles seem to be increasing. The way the ministers of the Netanyahu government are standing against this deal, it is clear that this deal can affect Netanyahu's throne.

Many ministers of the Netanyahu government are unhappy with the ceasefire deal with Hamas and are clearly expressing their opposition. Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has resigned from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet in protest against the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli government.

Netanyahu's troubles may increase.

Not only National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir but two more ministers from his nationalist-religious party Otzma Yehudit have resigned. Along with this, the Otzma Yehudit party has also withdrawn its support from Netanyahu's coalition government. After these resignations, tension has increased in the coalition government led by Netanyahu. If the ministers in the coalition government withdraw their support, then it will create problems for Netanyahu's throne.

The Otzma Yehudit party criticized the ceasefire agreement as a "surrender to Hamas". The party also condemned it, saying it was a "release of hundreds of murderers". The party claimed it diminished the achievements of the Israeli army in Gaza. Despite the resignation of the National Security Minister, Netanyahu retains a slight majority in the Israeli parliament. While the Otzma Yehudit party is no longer part of the ruling coalition, it has said it will not try to topple Netanyahu's government.

What difficulties will the Netanyahu government face?

The minister's resignation has certainly weakened Netanyahu's coalition government. If other right-wing MPs break ties with the government just like Ben-Gvir, the prime minister may lose his majority, which could potentially lead to early elections. Netanyahu could become prime minister only after the support of Itamar Ben-Gvir. In such a situation, it is feared that after his resignation, Netanyahu's post of prime minister may also be in danger.

There was an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire on 16 January 2025. After this, a ceasefire started between the two from Sunday i.e. 19 January and the work of releasing people is being done gradually. This ceasefire has curbed the violence that has been going on for the last 15 months. The war between Hamas and Israel started on 7 October 2023, after which a large number of people died and many were injured in the continuous attacks. Gaza has witnessed heavy destruction due to this war. This ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has come after international pressure and continuous efforts of many countries and organizations.
