After capturing the cities of Aleppo and Hama, the rebel groups have now reached the border of Homs. Russia has two airbases in Homs province, while a Russian naval base and an airbase are located near Homs. The rebel group's fighters have reached very close to the Russian base. Russia's Khmeimim air base in Latakia province is just 30 kilometers away from where Hayat is currently present. Similarly, the rebel groups are 150 kilometers away from the Tartus naval base.

After capturing Homs, the rebels will march towards the Syrian capital. They will first capture Al Naqb, which is 82 kilometers away from Homs. After that, they will attack Damascus, which is 80 kilometers away from Al Naqb.
If Homs is captured, Russia will have to vacate all its airbases and naval bases. If Homs is captured, it will be very easy for the rebels to conquer Damascus, and with this Assad will be overthrown in Syria. The Syrian and Russian forces have put in all their strength to save Homs and Damascus. The Russian Air Force is carrying out heavy bombing from the sky while the joint army of Russia and Syria, called the Syrian Arab Army, is trying to stop Hayat fighters on the ground.
