Iran Presidential Election: Iran announced on Monday that presidential elections will be held in the country on June 28. This announcement was made after the death of President Ibrahim Raisi and others in a helicopter crash. According to media reports, state television said, 'The election calendar was approved at a meeting of the heads of the judiciary, government, and parliament. By the preliminary agreement of the Guardian Council, it was decided that the 14th presidential election would be held on June 28.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the date of the election was decided in a meeting attended by Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar (who now holds the responsibilities of the President), Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ezei and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Vice President for Legal Affairs. Mohammad Dehkan and representatives of the Constitutional Council and the Ministry of Interior participated

What does Iran's law say?

According to Article 131 of the Constitution of Iran, if the President is unable to perform his duties, the First Vice President will assume command of the executive branch. Also, the interim President will have to arrange for the election of a new President within a maximum of 50 days.

Registration for the elections will be done from 30 May to 3 June. Candidates can run an election campaign from the 12th to the 27th of June.
