Donald Trump imposed tariffs… in return, Canada, Mexico, and China also gave 'pain' to America.

US President Donald Trump has decided to impose tariffs on goods coming from Canada and Mexico and additional duties on Chinese products. Trump's announcement is being opposed in many countries and countries ranging from Canada, Mexico to China have vowed to give a befitting reply to America.
Trump had already warned Americans while imposing tariffs that his decision could cause some pain to his own people as well. He also claimed that Canada would 'cease to exist' without a trade surplus with the US.
Trump says that he is taking this action against those countries which are not controlling illegal immigrants coming to America. According to Trump, illegal immigrants come to America from Canada, Mexico, and Colombia. Trump has imposed these tariffs by passing three separate orders on Saturday, which are being criticized globally.
What are Trump's decisions?
Under the decision, a 10 percent tariff will be imposed on all imports from China and 25 percent on goods coming from Mexico-Canada. Some exemptions have been given to Canadian energy products, including oil, natural gas and electricity, on which a 10 percent tariff will be imposed.
However, according to White House officials, there are no exceptions to the tariff and it will also apply to Canadian imports worth less than $800, which were recently tax free.
Canada and Mexico responded
Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Ottawa would respond in kind, imposing 25 per cent tariffs on up to $155 billion worth of US imports. Trudeau said the tariffs would include American beer, wine and bourbon as well as fruit and fruit juices, including orange juice from Trump's home state of Florida. Canada will also target other goods including clothing, sporting products and household appliances.
According to the US government, Canada was the largest buyer of the country's goods in 2022, with purchases worth $356.5 billion. It is estimated that in 2023, goods and services worth $2.7 billion were exchanged between the US and Canada every day.
Trudeau said, "Today's actions by the White House have divided us rather than brought us together. We didn't ask for this, but we will not back down."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Saturday ordered retaliatory tariffs on all goods coming from Mexico in response to the US imposing tariffs. In a lengthy post on X, Sheinbaum said her government wanted dialogue rather than confrontation with its top trading partner, but Mexico has been forced to respond in kind.
China will raise the tariff issue in WTO
China has condemned the tariffs and Trump's demands and has urged the US to reduce tensions through dialogue on the issue. It has also said that it will raise the issue in the WTO. China's Finance Ministry said in a statement that Trump's move "seriously violates" international trade rules and has urged the US to "hold frank dialogue and strengthen cooperation".
