Efforts are once again underway in Qatar-Doha to resolve the Gaza war and release hostages. An official associated with the talks told Reuters on Monday that an Israeli team has arrived in Doha to hold a meeting with Qatari mediators on the issues remaining in the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release agreement.

According to the official, the focus of this meeting is to bridge the gap between Israel and Hamas on the agreement set for May 31 brought by US President Joe Biden. Efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the US for a Gaza ceasefire have gained momentum in the last few weeks, but so far the two sides have not been able to reach an agreement.

Why is the agreement not happening?

In the last round, Israel had suddenly demanded its military presence in Gaza in the future, which hindered the ceasefire. Let us tell you that Hamas had accepted the proposal presented by Biden in May. The round of talks in mid-October also failed to reach any agreement, as Hamas rejected the temporary ceasefire proposal.

Uproar in Israel over hostage deal

Even after more than a year, the inability to release the hostages from Gaza has become a problem for the Israeli government. Not only in Gaza, now Netanyahu is also facing the threat of losing his position in the country. Protests are being held every day on the streets of the country for the release of the hostages and many people are demanding Netanyahu's resignation.

Recently, several military authorities have acknowledged that the release of the hostages can only be done through negotiations, as the military has carried out its maximum operation in Gaza.
