Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Latif Akbar was attacked on Sunday in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). However, he narrowly escaped this assassination attempt. In fact, unknown attackers opened fire on his convoy in the Kikliot area of ​​​​Charakpora Union Council. According to the police, two people have been injured in the attack, but their identity has not been confirmed yet.

The incident took place when Akbar was on his way to Kikliot to attend a function where members of an opposition political party were to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Allegedly, miscreants pelted stones and fired at the convoy, following which a shootout broke out between the attackers and law enforcement personnel.

Investigation into the attack begins

The Senate leadership condemned the attack. Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed relief at Akbar's safety and wished him well, while Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan expressed gratitude that the speaker remained safe. The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, with authorities launching an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

10 terrorists arrested in Punjab province

Law enforcement agencies in Pakistan's Punjab province have busted a major terror network and arrested 10 terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group. "Prompt and decisive action by security agencies during multiple intelligence-based operations across the province this week foiled planned attacks on vital infrastructure in Lahore and other cities of Punjab," a spokesperson of the Punjab Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said in a statement.

Arrested with explosives in Lahore

He said that 163 intelligence operations were carried out in districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sheikhpura, Bahawalnagar, Mianwali, Sargodha and Faisalabad. The official said that 10 dangerous terrorists were arrested after these operations. Those detained also include a very dangerous terrorist of TTP, who was caught with explosives in Lahore.

Conspiracy to attack multiple targets

More than 3,000 grams of explosives, 11 detonators, 22 feet of safety fuse wire, an IED and banned literary material were recovered from them. The spokesperson said that the terrorists were planning to attack major government buildings and other important places. He said that 10 cases have been registered against the terrorists and investigation is going on. The officer said that the suspects have been taken to an unknown place for interrogation.
