China Launches 'Punishment' Drills Around Taiwan:   China's military on Thursday launched a massive two-day 'punishment' drills around Taiwan. Its army, navy, air force, and rocket force are participating in it. China has done this exercise at a time when the new President of the self-ruled island of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te, has rejected China's claim of sovereignty over the country.

Let us tell you that China claims Taiwan as its territory. Beijing says that it will one day annex Taiwan to China even if it has to use force for this.

PLA's Eastern Theater Command conducted an exercise

According to the news of state news agency Xinhua, the Eastern Theater Command of the China People's Liberation Army (PLA) started joint military exercises around the island of Taiwan at 7:45 am on Thursday.

Li Shi, spokesman for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said, "This exercise is a severe punishment for the separatist acts of 'Taiwan independence' forces and a stern warning against interference and provocation by external forces."

The exercise is being conducted in the Taiwan Strait, north, south, and east of Taiwan Island as well as areas around Kinmen, Matsu, Wukiu, and Dongyin Islands.

Taiwan condemns the exercise

According to the BBC, Taiwan's Defense Ministry has condemned the Chinese exercise as an 'irrational provocation'. China has repeatedly rehearsed encircling Taiwan with fighter jets and naval ships over the past year.
