China is recording the calls of Americans, official statement creates a stir.

The statement of a senior US White House official has created a stir. The official claimed that the ninth American telecommunication company has been hacked through China's espionage operation, due to which officials sitting in Beijing are getting information about the private messages and phone conversations of many Americans.

Before the statement of White House official Newberger, the Biden administration had said that at least 8 telecom companies and dozens of countries have been affected by a Chinese hacking attack known as 'Salt Typhoon'. Amidst these reports, Deputy National Security Advisor Anne Newberger, while talking to the media on Friday, said that the ninth telecom company affected by the Chinese attack has been found. There have been many such cases in the US before, but the access of hackers to 9 telecom companies is indicating a big concern.

China has call records of Americans.

According to reports, hackers broke into the networks of telecommunications companies obtained call records of customers, and accessed private conversations of a limited number of people. Although the FBI has not publicly identified any victims, officials believe that senior US government officials and prominent political figures are among those whose phones have been accessed by Chinese hackers.

The purpose of the hackers

Newberger said on Friday that officials did not yet know exactly how many Americans were affected by Salt Typhoon because the Chinese were cautious about their techniques, but a large number of these hacks took place in the Washington-Virginia area. Officials believe the hackers' goal was to identify who had the phones and, if they were targets of government interest, to spy on their messages and phone calls.
