China banned the adoption of children after 3 decades, know the reason?
China has banned the adoption of Chinese children abroad after 3 decades. About 32 years ago in 1992, China started the process of adoption of Chinese children by foreign citizens for the first time. Since then, about 1 lakh 60 thousand Chinese children have been adopted across the world.
However, the Jinping government is worried due to the continuously decreasing population. For the last 2 years, a continuous decline in population has been recorded in China, and China also has the lowest birth rate in the world. This is the reason why the government is encouraging the youth to get married and have children, but no significant effect is being seen. Due to this, the Jinping government has taken this step.
While informing about the government's decision, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that the government has put a halt on the 'Cross Border Adoption Policy' for the time being. He said, "We would like to thank those families and their country's government who have expressed their desire to adopt Chinese children with a good purpose to give them a good upbringing and love."
Changes in the one-child policy have no effect
China strictly implemented the one-child policy from 1979 to 2015 for population control. Under this, families were allowed to have only one child or adopt one child. Most people kept the boys with themselves for future care and gave the girls for adoption to other families.
Out of 1 lakh 60 thousand children adopted from China, more than 50 percent i.e. about 82 thousand children have been adopted in America, the number of girls was higher among these adopted children.
In the year 2015, China changed its one-child policy and allowed families to have 2 children, after which in the year 2021 it was increased from 2 to 3. Along with the change in policy regarding children, the government also made many other efforts like giving financial assistance to families for having more children, but it is said that these efforts made by the government did not have any significant effect.
People are worried due to inflation
People in China are reluctant to have more children, earlier this was due to government pressure but now there are many reasons behind it. The biggest reason is inflation. Living and education are very expensive in Chinese cities, while property prices are also skyrocketing, due to which people are afraid to expand their families.
According to media reports, due to stagnant salaries, limited job opportunities, and long working hours in Chinese cities, raising a child is becoming very expensive and difficult, in such a situation people cannot even think of having 3 children.
Apart from this, women in China are more educated than men, they are also more financially capable than men. According to media reports, women in China have to face discrimination due to their family responsibilities, and many companies also hesitate to pay salaries during maternity leave, so they do not want to compromise their careers because of children.
A decreasing population impacts the economy!
China's population is decreasing rapidly and this will affect the country's economy. Currently, 73 percent of China's population is between 15 and 64 years of age, while the population below 15 years of age is only 18 percent. This means that in the coming times, China may have to face a shortage of young population. It is believed that by 2040, one-fourth of China's population will become old (above 60 years), which will increase the burden of expenditure on the government on pensions and policies related to the care of the elderly.
This will lead to a shortage of workforce in various sectors of China, which can have a significant impact on the country's development and economy. Due to the young population and shortage of employees, China may have to import many products, which can be harmful to its domestic industries.
Will the population be halved by the end of the century?
For the last 2 years, China's population has continuously decreased, and the declining birth rate and increasing death rate have become a major cause of concern for China. According to China's National Bureau of Statistics, 9 million children were born in China in the year 2023, which is half as compared to 2017. According to reports, China's population has decreased by about 3 million in the last 2 years. Experts are expressing apprehension that by the end of this century, China's population will be reduced to half, which is very worrying for the Chinese government, this is the reason why the government is making all kinds of efforts to increase the country's population.
