An aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel has accepted US President Joe Biden's proposal to end the Gaza war. However, Netanyahu described it as flawed and his aide said that more work is needed on it.

Netanyahu's chief foreign policy adviser Ofir Falk said that we agree with President Biden's proposal, but it is not a good deal. We want all the hostages to be released. Falk said that many issues still need to be worked out, including the release of hostages and the elimination of Hamas as a genocidal terrorist organization.

Israel offers compromise to Hamas

The US President announced on May 31 that Israel had proposed a deal to Hamas that included a partial Israeli military withdrawal with an initial six-week ceasefire the release of some hostages and a permanent end to hostilities. According to Biden, the proposal builds on a better day in Gaza even if Hamas is not in power. He said the deal was being negotiated through mediators.

Pressure on Israel's PM

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was facing mounting pressure after Biden's three-step proposal. The first phase, lasting six weeks, will include a complete and total ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all densely populated areas of Gaza. Apart from this, hostages including women, elderly and injured will be released by Hamas in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli army will withdraw from Gaza

In the second phase, according to Biden's proposal, all surviving hostages, including male soldiers, will be released and the Israeli army will withdraw from Gaza. In the third phase, a major reconstruction of Gaza is proposed. Reconstruction will have to be done for decades after the devastation caused by the war.
