Bangladeshis will not get entry… Assam hotels' decision against atrocities on Hindus
The situation in Bangladesh is not hidden from anyone, and minorities are being targeted there. Along with this, atrocities are being continuously committed against them. In view of this, protests were seen in many places in India in the past few days. Pictures of massive protests emerged in the districts of Assam bordering Bangladesh. Hotels and restaurants in Barak Valley have now banned the entry of Bangladeshi customers. Traders said that until the attacks on people from minority communities stop, no Bangladeshi will be helped.
The Barak Valley region comprises the three districts of Cachar, Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj), and Hailakandi. The valley shares a 129-km-long border with the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. Before the hotel and restaurant ban, the Import-Export Association of Sribhumi district had decided to suspend all trade relations with Bangladesh.
What did the people of the Hotel and Restaurant Association say?
Babul Rai, President of Barak Valley Hotel and Restaurant Association said that the condition of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh is worrying. We cannot accept this in any way. Therefore, we have decided that until the situation improves and atrocities on Hindus stop, we will not keep any citizen of the neighboring country in the three districts of Barak Valley. He further said that this is our way of expressing protest.
He said the people of Bangladesh should ensure that stability returns to the country. Only if the situation improves, we can reconsider our decision.
Hotels and hospitals have also been banned in Tripura
Recently, the All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association in Tripura had refused to serve food to Bangladeshis in the restaurants. This decision was taken after a meeting of the hotel and restaurant members. Earlier, ILS Hospital had announced that it would not treat any patient from Bangladesh in protest against the atrocities on minorities in the neighboring country.
