The annual textbook festival in Bangladesh will not be held in 2025. Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said on Sunday that the annual textbook festival traditionally held on January 1 will not be held in 2025. The work pressure on the new government is believed to be the reason behind not holding the textbook festival. This festival is organized every year during January in Bangladesh and books are distributed to school students by the education department.

Bidhan Ranjan held a press conference at the Divisional Commissioner's Office in Khulna in which he said that books will be distributed to all students by the end of January. Ranjan attributed the delay in book distribution to difficulties in foreign tenders for printing books.

He said, "On August 5, the tender was canceled and a new tender was started, which has delayed the printing process. Despite this, our target is to distribute primary level books by January." Apart from this, the consultant also acknowledged the challenges faced in the new curriculum.

The new syllabus will increase the pressure on students.

Bidhan Ranjan said, "The new curriculum will increase some pressure on students, which is normal considering the problems arising after the public uprising. However, we have to move forward by adapting to it." The advisor also revealed the government's plan to expand the mid-day meal program to all primary schools within the next five years, starting with 150 sub-districts in the first phase.

Education accounts for only 2% of the budget.

Emphasizing on the financial constraints in the education sector, the advisor said, “Bangladesh allocates only 2 percent of its national budget to education, which is the lowest in South Asia, while UNESCO recommends 6 percent. Improving the financial and social status of teachers is essential for progress.” He also emphasized the need for basic skills. He said, “Special focus on literacy and proficiency in language and mathematics at the primary level is the key to accessing global knowledge.”
