Bangladesh owes Tripura Rs 200 crore electricity bill, power supply will be stopped!
Bangladesh, which has taken an anti-India stance after the fall of Sheikh Hasina, is not paying India's electricity dues. Tripura CM Manik Saha said that Bangladesh has not paid about Rs 200 crore for the electricity supply to Tripura. This outstanding amount is increasing every day, the Tripura government hopes that Bangladesh will pay its dues soon so that there is no interruption in the power supply.
India's Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited supplies 60-70 MW of electricity to Bangladesh through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited. For this, an agreement was signed with the Bangladesh Power Development Board, after which Tripura started supplying electricity to Bangladesh in March 2016.
not paying outstanding dues
Despite repeated warnings, Bangladesh is delaying in paying Tripura's dues. The CM was asked whether the Tripura government will stop the supply of electricity if Dhaka fails to pay the dues. Answering this, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that no decision has been taken on this yet. He also did not rule out the possibility that they may stop Bangladesh's electricity.
He said that many machinery for setting up power generation plants in Tripura were brought through Bangladeshi territory or Chittagong port. Therefore, out of gratitude, the Tripura government started supplying electricity to the country after an agreement. Apart from Adani Power, other Indian government-owned companies also sell electricity to Bangladesh, including NTPC Limited and PTC India Limited.
