129 prisoners tried to escape from Makala prison in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, but failed. In this attempt, they failed to free themselves from captivity, but life freed them and they were killed. Some of these prisoners died in a stampede. Officials said that at least 129 people died while trying to escape from Makala prison in the capital of Congo.

Congo's Internal Affairs Minister Jacquemin Shabani said on the social platform X that the information received so far shows that 24 prisoners trying to escape from the overcrowded Makala prison in Kinshasa early Monday were shot dead after giving warning. Some prisoners fell victim to the stampede after the firing and were killed. It is being told that this death toll may increase even more.

Jail for 1500 prisoners

According to reports, Congo's Makala prison can hold 1,500 prisoners and currently, there are more than 12,000 prisoners in this prison, most of whom are awaiting their trial. Locals said that firing continued inside the prison from Sunday midnight to Monday morning. Regarding this incident, a senior government official had earlier said that only two people died during the incident, but according to the information revealed on Tuesday, not 2 but more than 100 people were killed.

However, this was not the first time that prisoners have tried to escape. Earlier also many prisoners had tried to escape from Congo's prison. Jailbreaks have been recorded earlier as well, including an incident in the year 2017 when dozens of people were released in an attack by a religious sect.
