The situation in Bangladesh was discussed in detail during the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden late on Monday night. Prime Minister Modi told President Biden that there is a worrying situation regarding the safety of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh. The issue of the conversation about Bangladesh is missing in the statement issued by the White House on the conversation between the two leaders.

The American statement only mentioned things that were of interest to them. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Ukraine was given a lot of prominence in the American statement, but no space was given to Prime Minister Modi's discussion about Bangladeshi Hindus and India's concerns.

A statement issued by the White House said that the President praised the Indian Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in decades and also praised the message of peace and continued humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including its energy sector. During their talks on the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Prime Minister informed President Biden about his recent visit to that country. He reiterated India's firm stand, which advocates dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.

The statement said, 'While discussing the situation in Ukraine, the Prime Minister briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. He reiterated India's consistent position in favor of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for an early return to peace and stability.'

PM Modi said that India is ready to cooperate fully to bring peace and stability. The two leaders also talked about the latest situation in Bangladesh. Both the leaders emphasized restoring peace in Bangladesh and ensuring the safety of minorities, especially Hindus. PM Modi and Biden reiterated their commitment to further strengthen multilateral cooperation, including the Quad. He said that the purpose of the India-US partnership is to benefit humanity.

Many questions arise regarding the US stance on Bangladesh

Ever since Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee from Dhaka on August 5, the role of the US in the ongoing protests in Bangladesh has been a topic of discussion around the world. Sheikh Hasina has also claimed that she lost her throne because she refused to hand over Bangladesh's strategically important Saint Martin Island to the US.

Last year, Russia had also alerted the then Sheikh Hasina government about US interference in Bangladesh. US statements since the change of government in Bangladesh have also strengthened this suspicion. The US and the West are deliberately ignoring the violence and atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh on 5 August and thereafter.
