Afghanistan:   A statement has come from the spokesperson of Taliban Interior Minister Abdul Mateen Kani. He said on Wednesday (May 8) that three policemen were killed and five people were injured after an explosion in Faizabad city, the capital of Badakhshan province in northern Afghanistan. 

"Unfortunately, a sticky bomb planted on a motorcycle targeted a police convoy," Kani said in a statement on Twitter. He said that the incident took place around 11 am local time and initial information revealed that three police personnel were martyred and five were injured. 

Kani said the police are investigating the incident

The spokesman said the convoy of police forces was carrying poppy seeds, which are used to make opium so that it could be destroyed before their vehicle was attacked. Earlier, sources had said that six people were killed and eight others were injured when a motorcycle packed with explosives exploded when a military convoy was passing through an area of ​​Faizabad city.  

An Afghanistan International report, citing city residents, said at least one Taliban Ranger vehicle was destroyed in the blast.
