The interim government of Bangladesh has demanded the return of Sheikh Hasina. On Monday, the interim government informed that through a diplomatic note, it has demanded India send Sheikh Hasina back to Dhaka.

According to the information, the interim government has asked to deport Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh citing her being presented in court in a diplomatic note. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 amid the months-long violent anti-reservation movement in Bangladesh and she hurriedly came to India to save her life.

Arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina

The anti-reservation movement that began in Bangladesh in late June put an end to the 16-year rule of 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina. The Dhaka-based International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against several former cabinet ministers, advisors, and military and civil officials, including Sheikh Hasina, on charges of 'crimes against human rights and genocide'.

Demand to send Sheikh Hasina back

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Mohammad Tauheed Hussain, while talking to the media in his office, said, 'We have sent a verbal note (diplomatic note) to the Indian government saying that Bangladesh wants Sheikh Hasina to be sent back to face the judicial process.'

Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam had said that a letter has been sent from his office to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina from India. In response to a question related to this, Jahangir Alam said, 'We have sent a letter related to her extradition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the process is still going on.'

Alam said that an extradition treaty exists between India and Bangladesh and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can be brought back to Bangladesh through this treaty.
