45,800 Palestinians have died since the start of the Gaza war, and more than 200 died in the first week of 2025

More than a year has passed since the Gaza war, but the number of casualties is increasing. More than 200 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks in just 5 days of the new year amid efforts for ceasefire talks going on in Doha.

The Gaza Health Ministry has released data on Palestinians who have died since October 7. According to the data, 45,800 Palestinians have died and 109,000 have been injured in Israeli attacks during the entire war.

The ministry statement said, “The number of victims of attacks by Israeli soldiers in Gaza since October 2023 has risen to 45,805, with 109,064 people injured.” The agency also stressed that 88 Palestinians have been killed while 208 have been injured in Israeli attacks on the war-torn region in the past 24 hours.

War broke out due to the Hamas attack.

This war started after a sudden attack on Israeli territory by fighters of the Palestinian group Hamas on 7 October 2023. About 1200 Israelis were killed in the Hamas attack and more than 240 were taken hostage.

Why did Hamas attack?

Hamas had described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque located in the Old City of Jerusalem. After this Israel declared war and completely blockaded the Gaza Strip, a city of 2.3 million Palestinians, after which Israel's ground action in Gaza continues till date. Apart from this, Israel has also started air strikes on some parts of Lebanon and Syria and clashes are also going on in the West Bank.
