Year Ender 2024: India is touching new heights every day in the field of space science. Many space agencies of the world including the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), US Space Agency (NASA) and European Space Agency (ESA) are launching new missions every day to solve the mysteries of the universe. The year 2024 has been very special for the space sector. This year space agencies launched many missions, including Europa Clipper and Proba-3.

ISRO's Proba-3 Mission

ISRO launched Proba-3 on December 5, 2024, with the help of a PSLV-XL rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. In this mission, two satellites Coronagraph and Occulter will study the Sun's corona i.e. the outer layer of the Sun. The Occulter satellite will block the Sun's brightness and create a fake solar eclipse, while the Coronagraph will observe it. This mission will help in understanding the structure of the Sun's corona and the speed of the solar wind.

Polaris Dawn Mission

Elon Musk's company SpaceX will launch the Polaris Dawn mission in September 2024. This mission was manned, and aimed at testing new ways of space exploration.

It used the SpaceX Dragon capsule and the first commercial spacewalk was carried out during the mission. The pilot conducted scientific research and technical tests in low Earth orbit.

Europa Clipper Mission

The US space agency NASA launched this mission in October 2024. The purpose of the mission is to study Jupiter's moon Europa. Mainly to investigate the ocean hidden under its icy surface. This mission will look for possible signs of life and help understand the composition and chemical characteristics of the ocean of water located below the surface. Its purpose is also to search for alien life on Europa. Jupiter has 95 moons, of which Europa is the fourth largest moon. It has an icy sea of salty water on its surface. Scientists believe that there is twice as much water on Europa as on Earth. It is also expected that life may exist here. Or is thriving? It may also have existed before.

Peregrine-1 Mission

This mission was launched by Astrobotic Company in January 2024. It was included in NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. It was designed to deliver payloads to the Moon. This mission was sent to install scientific instruments on the surface of the Moon and collect important data from there. But, the landing of this mission could not happen as planned.
