'This whole proposal is an insult to the arrogance of the BJP...' CM MK Stalin on One Nation One Election.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin has also joined the chorus opposing one country, one election. On Thursday, he termed the Centre's proposal to hold simultaneous elections as impractical and a diversionary tactic. He also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government will never be able to implement it.
Stalin said in a post on 'X', 'One Country One Election is an impractical proposal that ignores the complexities of India's diverse electoral system and undermines federalism. It is logically impractical given the huge differences in election cycles, regional issues, and governance preferences.'
This entire proposal is to satisfy the ego of the BJP...
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said, 'One Country One Election will require unrealistic alignment of all posts, which will disrupt the natural process of governance.' He said, 'This whole proposal is just an attempt to satisfy the ego of the BJP, but they will never be able to implement it.'
Attacking the central government, he said that India's democracy cannot be bowed down to the greed of any one party. Instead of wasting energy on these diversionary tactics, the central government should focus on burning issues like unemployment, price rises, and equitable distribution of resources to the states.
One Nation One Election proposal
The proposal of one country one election was approved by the cabinet on Tuesday. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had made this information public. He said that the committee headed by former President Ramnath Kovid had submitted its report to President Draupadi Murmu. Which has been accepted by the cabinet.
The government said that the proposal for One Nation One Election has the support of 32 out of 47 parties. According to this proposal, elections at all levels will be conducted in two phases in the country. In the first phase, elections for Lok Sabha and all the state assemblies will be conducted simultaneously. In the second phase, all the elections for Panchayat and Corporation will be conducted simultaneously.
