FIR lodged against 15 people
Case registered against 15 Superintendent of Police Rajdeep Singh Jala said on Friday that the incident took place in a village in Sanjeli taluka on January 28. He said that an FIR was registered against 15 people on January 29. Four men, four women and four minors have been arrested in the case. On receiving information about the incident, we rescued the woman, who was locked inside the house by her father-in-law.
Case of assault registered
A case has also been registered against those who made the video viral. The officer said that a case has been registered against the accused for kidnapping, wrongful confinement, insulting the dignity of a woman and assault. He said that a case had been registered under the provisions of the Information Technology Act against those in the crowd who made a video of this act and circulated it.
Attack by entering the victim's house
According to the FIR, the victim was in a love affair with a man from the same village and had gone to meet him on the day of the incident. The victim's father-in-law and her husband's brother along with a group of people including some women barged into the man's house and attacked the victim.
Tore clothes
The mob tore off the woman's clothes and paraded her around the village, tying her hands in chains. She was then tied to a motorcycle dragged on the main road and taken to a house where she was locked inside.
The opposition demanded strict action
Opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party criticised the BJP government over the incident and demanded strict action against the culprits. Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel told reporters in Gandhinagar that the police took immediate action and 12 people have been arrested so far.
