A 35-year-old tribal woman was beaten up and paraded naked by her father-in-law and others in Gujarat's Dahod district on suspicion of extramarital affairs. 12 people have been arrested after a video of the incident went viral on social media. A police officer gave this information on Friday. Superintendent of Police Rajdeep Singh Jala said that the incident took place in a village in Sanjeli taluka on January 28.

He said, "An FIR was lodged against 15 people on January 29. We have arrested 12 people, including four men, four women and four minors. On receiving information about the incident, we rescued the woman, who was locked inside the house by her father-in-law." The officer said that a case has been registered against the accused for kidnapping, wrongful confinement, insulting the dignity of a woman and assault.
The victim was having an affair with a man from the village.
He said that those in the mob who made a video of the act and circulated it have been booked under the provisions of the Information Technology Act. According to the FIR, the victim was having a love affair with a man from the village and had gone to meet him on the day of the incident. Police said that Bahadur Damor, the father-in-law of the victim, and Sanjay Damor, the brother of her husband, along with a group of people, including some women, barged into the man's house and attacked the victim. According to the FIR, she was then tied to a motorcycle dragged on the main road taken to a house and locked inside. Opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the incident and demanded strict action against the culprits. Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel told reporters in Gandhinagar that the police took immediate action and 12 people have been arrested so far.
