Tamil Nadu police action in Kerala ATM robbery case, one killed in encounter; 7 arrested
A gang suspected of looting an ATM in Thrissur district of Kerala came face to face with Tamil Nadu police on Friday. Tamil Nadu police killed an accused of looting an ATM. The accused were trying to escape after hitting cars and bikes in Kumarapalayam of Namakkal district. A senior Tamil Nadu police officer gave information about this encounter. One accused along with two policemen were also injured in this police encounter. All of them have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
According to a Tamil Nadu police officer, when the police surrounded this suspected gang of ATM robbers, the miscreants allegedly opened fire on the policemen. Two policemen including an inspector were injured in this firing. They are undergoing treatment in a government hospital. Salem Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) E.S. Uma said that the gang of miscreants created such a situation that the police also had to open fire. Two of our personnel were injured in the attack. The DIG said that a detailed investigation is underway in this regard.
Meanwhile, Namakkal district Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Rajesh Kannan said that after attacking the police, the gang tried to escape, in which two policemen were injured. Earlier, the police chasing a container truck initially warned the driver to stop the truck, but when he did not pay heed, the additional police force was sent and finally the truck was stopped.
SP S. Rajesh Kannan said that the police had to shoot at an accused who was trying to escape from the truck, due to which he got injured. The injured has been admitted to the hospital. Six other people have also been detained. SP S. Rajesh Kannan said that a car hidden inside the truck had also been seized. The SP said that it is being investigated whether this is the same gang that was involved in three different ATM robberies in the Thrissur district of Kerala.
