A massive explosion took place at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Saturday, killing six workers and injuring at least 30 others, police said. Giving details of the incident, an official said the incident took place during the process of mixing chemicals. The blast was so powerful that a room was completely demolished and many people were hit by it. At present, the relief and rescue process has started after the incident.

According to the information, preliminary investigation has found that the explosion occurred while mixing chemicals, causing a part of the factory to turn into rubble. Soon after the accident, the team of fire brigade and rescue department reached the spot and started relief work. The local administration has also deployed additional security forces to control the situation.

The incident has again raised questions on safety standards in firecracker manufacturing units. It was told that immediately the local administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
