Tainted faces like Shah Rukh and Tahir... Still, AIMIM has staked the stakes!
AIMIM in Delhi Assembly Elections: Asaduddin Owaisi, who has so far stayed away from the elections of the national capital Delhi, is going to debut in the assembly elections this time. His entry into the election has raised many questions. In particular, questions are being raised about the kind of candidates the party is choosing.
AIMIM in Delhi Assembly Elections: The Union Territory of Delhi is on the threshold of elections and all the political parties have started pulling people towards them. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is once again announcing populist schemes. The Bharatiya Janata Party is raising various questions on these schemes of AAP, as well as the Congress is leaving no stone unturned to call these schemes of the Delhi government wrong. If we look at the last few elections of Delhi, till now the Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Congress used to be the main parties in Delhi politics, but this time Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has also started looking for political ground for itself in the capital.
AIMIM's bets on controversial faces?
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has earlier tried its luck in the assembly elections of states like UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat. In some states, the party has got the expected results, while in some states it has been wiped out. Although Asaduddin Owaisi's party was still away from the national capital elections, this time he has made up his mind to jump into the fray and has also started announcing the names of candidates. However, AIMIM is being accused of showing its strength in Delhi due to controversial faces.
AAP quits, AIMIM adopts
Owaisi's party has fielded former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain, who is in jail in a case related to the Delhi riots, as its candidate from Mustafabad. Tahir Hussain is in jail on charges of killing IB officer Ankit Sharma in the Delhi riots. He was expelled from the Aam Aadmi Party after allegations were levelled against his councillor. The matter is not ending with just one face, as there is speculation about giving a ticket to another controversial face on the party's side.
Shahrukh's name also came up in the discussion
It is being said that AIMIM can also make Shahrukh its candidate. Shahrukh was accused of pointing a pistol at a policeman during the Delhi riots. Recently, AIMIM's Delhi unit president Shoaib Jami met Shahrukh's family members. After this, AIMIM state president Shoaib himself spoke to Shahrukh's family. During this time, Jamai had indicated that if his family and local people want, then we can make him contest the elections. In such a situation, everyone is raising the question on AIMIM that what does the party want to prove by trying its luck on controversial faces?
Why not Muslim leadership?
The Muslim voter of the capital used to be from the Congress, but for the last few elections, this vote has turned towards the common man. Experts say that if AIMIM has to make its place in the electoral battle of Delhi, then faces like Tahir Hussain and Shahrukh become important. By fielding such faces, AIMIM is trying to present itself as a true well-wisher among the Muslim society. Addressing a rally in support of Tahir Hussain, Owaisi also said that if there is a political leadership for every community, why not for Muslims.
Whose game will Delhi spoil AIMIM?
AIMIM will contest elections for the first time in the capital Delhi. In such a situation, the question arises as to whose votes she is going to cut. According to the 2011 census, Muslims constitute 12 per cent of the state's population. The AIMIM is likely to field candidates in seats like Mustafabad, Seelampur, Babarpur, Chandni Chowk, Okhla, Jangpura and Ballimaran. These seats are almost in the account of the Aam Aadmi Party, so it is obvious that AIMIM is going to prove to be a loss for the Aam Aadmi Party.
How amazing will AIMIM do?
It is a bit difficult to tell how amazing AIMIM will be able to do. However, the performance of its other states can be monitored. In the recently held assembly elections in Maharashtra, Owaisi had fielded 16 candidates but won only one seat. Whereas last time AIMIM had fielded 44 candidates and could win only 2 seats. Apart from this, in the Bihar Assembly elections 2020, AIMIM had fielded 20 candidates and won 5 seats here. Even before this, if we look at the elections of Gujarat, AIMIM got less votes than NOTA. According to the data, Owaisi's party AIMIM got 0.29 per cent vote share in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections. This figure is less than the percentage of votes received by NOTA. In the Gujarat elections, 1.58 percent vote share was received NOTA.
