Various states have decided to start school holidays soon. Summer break gives students the most time to relax, play, and experience new interests while getting ready for the upcoming academic year with about a month off from school.

Let us have a look at the dates that many Indian states have announced for their summer vacations:

Kerala

The summer vacation of 2 months started on 2nd April and will continue till the end of May. Education Minister V Sivankutty announced summer vacation for classes 1 to 9. The next academic session 2023-24 will start on 1st June.

West Bengal

West Bengal has started summer vacations for its schools, colleges, and institutions from May 2. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a notification in this regard. Due to the scorching heat across the state, the summer vacation for students in government and aided schools in West Bengal has started from May 2 instead of May 24, a senior official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Madhya Pradesh

Summer vacation has been declared in the schools of Madhya Pradesh. Schools will remain closed from May 1 to June 15. The new academic session 2023-24 started on 17 April.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh state government has released the school calendar for summer vacation. School Education Commissioner S. Suresh Kumar has announced the closure of the school from May 1 to June 12. The last day of the academic year 2022-23 is 30 April. Classes will resume in both government and private schools in the state on June 12.

Tamil Nadu

Schools using the Tamil Nadu State Board syllabus are closed for the next summer vacation, which began on April 29. As per the annual, classes for classes, one to five will resume on June 5 and for classes six to twelve on June 1. The timetable was released by the School Education Department in Chennai on 28 April.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra government has recently announced early summer vacation for primary, intermediate, and higher secondary schools of the state board from April 21, 2023, due to the heatwave. According to the instructions issued by the School Education Department, schools of different boards can decide to close keeping in mind their curriculum and activities. Schools in the state will reopen on June 15 except in Vidarbha. The decision further states that in Vidarbha they will resume on June 30.

Odisha

All schools and Anganwadi facilities will remain closed on the 19th and 20th of April due to extreme heat conditions. Morning classes in schools will run from 7 am to 11 am. Odisha's summer vacation was originally scheduled to begin on April 19, but the date was revised. The Odisha Education Department reports that the summer vacation will run from May 5 to June 18.

Jharkhand

The summer vacation in Jharkhand will be from May 21 to June 10. The upcoming academic year 2023-24 will start from June 12.

Uttar Pradesh

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will have summer vacation for 40 days this year. According to the academic calendar, the summer vacation will be from May 21 to June 20. If there is a change in the dates, the education department will issue a separate notification.
