Some people are becoming leaders of Hindus... Whom did Mohan Bhagwat target by referring to the temple-mosque?
Temple Mosque Issues: He said that in recent times, demands for survey of mosques to locate temples have been reaching the court, but this trend is not acceptable. Bhagwat said India's system now runs according to the Constitution.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has expressed concern over the recent resurgence of temple-mosque disputes, saying that after the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, some people feel that they can become leaders of Hindus by raising such issues, which is not appropriate. Delivering a lecture on 'Bharat-Vishwaguru' at the 'Symbiosis Lecture Series', he advocated an inclusive society and said India has to prove to the world that despite diversity, one can live together in harmony.
A model of goodwill should be created...
In fact, Mohan Bhagwat underlined the plurality of Indian society and gave the example of the celebration of Christmas in the Ramakrishna Mission. He said only a Hindu society can do such a thing, as this society believes in tolerance and inclusiveness. He emphasized that India should create a model of goodwill so that the world can get inspiration. He made it clear that the construction of Ram temple was a matter of faith for all Hindus and such issues cannot be allowed to divide the society by raising them repeatedly.
This trend is not acceptable...
He said that in recent times demands for survey of mosques to locate temples have been reaching the court, but this trend is not acceptable. Bhagwat said India's system now runs according to the Constitution, where people elect their representatives and form government. He also said that the days of hegemony and bigotry are over. Citing the example of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's rule, he said that society suffered due to bigotry, but rulers like Bahadur Shah Zafar promoted goodwill by banning cow slaughter.
Why use the language of domination?
Referring to history, Bhagwat said the decision to give the Ram temple in Ayodhya to Hindus was taken earlier, but the British created a rift between the two communities. This feeling of separatism eventually paved the way for the creation of Pakistan. He also said if everyone considered themselves Indians then why was the "language of hegemony" being used.
The RSS chief said that in India, everyone is equal and there is no place for the distinction of minority and majority. Citing Indian tradition, he said everyone has the freedom to follow their own way of worship. The need is for everyone to follow the rules and laws and maintain mutual harmony. PTI Inputs
