Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Parliament on Monday with a special bag. It had 'Palestine' written on it. The bag was a reflection of their support for Palestine and their position against Israel's military action in Gaza. Priyanka Gandhi has raised voice in support of the Palestinians many times before. When the BJP targeted Priyanka Gandhi for supporting Palestine, she said that the government should think about the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.
Bag with Palestine symbols
Priyanka Gandhi's bag had 'Palestine' written in English on it and it also had symbols associated with Palestine, including a picture of a watermelon. This watermelon is considered a symbol of struggle and solidarity of Palestinians. Last week, Palestinian embassy chief Abid Alrazak Abu Jajar had met Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi. He congratulated Priyanka on her recent election victory from Wayanad in Kerala.
BJP targeted
The BJP strongly opposed Priyanka Gandhi's move. BJP MP Ghulam Ali Khatana called it an "attempt to grab headlines". "When people reject them, they start doing such things," he said.
Priyanka's retort
Countering the BJP's allegations, Priyanka Gandhi said that the government should also discuss the atrocities on Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh. "The government should take up the issue of atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh and support the victims," he said.
Priyanka's stance against Israel
Priyanka Gandhi had earlier strongly criticized the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He called the Israeli military action in Gaza a "genocide" and demanded that it stop.
