Prime Minister Modi reached Brunei and got a warm welcome at the airport, bilateral talks will be held tomorrow
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Brunei. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to make a bilateral visit to Brunei. Brunei's Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah welcomed the PM at the airport, after which he was given a guard of honor.
PM Modi has arrived at the invitation of King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. Tomorrow the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with the Sultan of Brunei, after which he will leave for Singapore. The Prime Minister will return home after visiting Singapore on 4 and 5 September.
People of the Indian community also gave a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi outside the hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. As soon as he reached the hotel, PM Narendra Modi talked to a girl who presented him his sketch, PM also gave his autograph on the sketch of that girl.
Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new premises of the Indian High Commission this evening, after which the Prime Minister will meet and discuss with the people of the Indian community living in Brunei. After this, PM Modi will visit the Omar Ali Saifuddeen Mosque of Brunei, it is the oldest and largest mosque in Brunei.
Bilateral talks with Sultan Bolkiah tomorrow
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has said that tomorrow the Prime Minister will meet Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and bilateral talks will be held between the two leaders. During this, there will be a discussion on strengthening relations between the two countries and furthering cooperation.
The Foreign Ministry official said that Brunei is an important strategic partner for India's Act East policy and vision of the Indo-Pacific. India and Brunei are working in mutual partnership in many areas like defense, trade and investment, energy, space, technology, and health. It is expected that some agreements can be made in the semiconductor and hydrocarbon sectors during this visit of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi has been invited by King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. He had earlier made state visits to India in 1992 and 2008. He also participated in the ASEAN India Summit in 2012 and 2018. He has also visited India as the chief guest on Republic Day in 2018.
