Pornographic video case: Court sends former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna to judicial custody, was arrested on May 31

Karnataka Police had detained Prajwal Revanna from Bengaluru airport. Later he was arrested and the court sent him to police custody. After the detention period ended, the police once again produced Revanna in court on Monday, from where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

A Karnataka court has sent former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna to judicial custody till June 24. Revanna, who was involved in the pornographic video case, was arrested by the police on May 31. Revanna, who has been living abroad since the allegations, was arrested by the police as soon as he landed at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case did not seek further custody of Revanna on Monday.

Prajwal Revanna came under the scanner of allegations during the Lok Sabha election campaign. It was during this time that the pornographic video went viral. After the video surfaced, the Karnataka government swung into action and formed an SIT for investigation. The SIT summoned him but he did not join the investigation. After this, it was revealed that Revanna had fled to Germany on a diplomatic passport. After increasing family and political pressure, Revanna returned to India on 31 May, after which the SIT immediately took him into custody.

In judicial custody till June 24

After this, the SIT presented Revanna in court. From where the court sent him to police custody till June 6. After this, the SIT demanded to extend the period of Revanna's custody in the court. The court accepted the demand and sent Revanna back to police custody. However, after the custody period ended on Monday, the police once again presented Revanna in court. From where he has been sent to judicial custody till June 24.

Revanna became an MP for the first time in 2019

Revanna was elected MP from the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka in 2019. This was also his first victory. Then Revanna secured 676,606 votes with 52.91 percent votes. Revanna was also in the fray for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections, but this time he had to face a crushing defeat. Former Prime Minister and Prajwal Revanna's grandfather HD Deve Gowda has been an MP from Hassan Lok Sabha seat thrice. He won in the years 2004, 2009, and 2014.
