PM Modi did a bigger deal in America than the 'nuclear agreement', understand what it is
Semiconductors will now be manufactured in India as well. Till now semiconductors were being imported in India. This semiconductor plant will produce chips for use in military hardware as well as important telecommunication networks and electronics for both the countries.
India to get first national security semiconductor manufacturing plant
India is going to get its first national security 'semiconductor fabrication plant' with the help of America. This will not only be India's first, but also the world's first 'multi material manufacturing plant' for national security. In such a situation, this plant is very important not only for India but also for America. This is a historic moment, because this is the first time that the US military has agreed to partner with India for these high technologies. In fact, this is as important as the civil nuclear agreement. When the whole world is struggling with the shortage of semiconductors, this plant will prove to be a milestone in India's flight.
Historic agreement between India and America
This semiconductor plant being set up in India will produce chips for use in military hardware as well as critical telecommunications networks and electronics for both countries. This ambitious project was announced after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Wilmington. According to a joint statement on the Modi-Biden talks, the two leaders described the India-US semiconductor manufacturing partnership as a historic agreement. The project will be helpful in the India Semiconductor Mission and will be part of the strategic technology partnership between Bharat Semi, ThirdTech and the US Space Force.
As important as the civil nuclear agreement
This will not only be India's first but also the world's first multi-material manufacturing plant for national security, which will also increase employment in India. People familiar with the matter said that this is the first time that the US military has agreed to partner with India for these high technologies and this is a historic moment, as it is as important as the civil nuclear agreement. According to the India-US joint statement, President Biden and Prime Minister Modi appreciated a historic agreement to set up a new semiconductor manufacturing plant focused on advanced sensing, communication and power electronics for national security, next generation telecommunications and green energy applications.
India is facing semiconductor shortage
Countries around the world are currently facing a shortage of semiconductors and India is no exception. India depends on imports to meet its semiconductor needs. But there are very few companies in the world that make semiconductor chips. The whole world has to depend on these select companies for semiconductors. In such a situation, when the Corona period came, a huge shortage of semiconductors was felt all over the world because trade between countries was closed. After this, many countries including India realized how semiconductors used in everything from mobiles to cars can affect the country's economy.
These countries including China are the largest manufacturers of semiconductors
After the Corona epidemic, the effect of semiconductor shortage has been seen on everything from electronic items to car manufacturers. Countries like Taiwan, South Korea, China and Japan are the largest semiconductor manufacturing countries in the world. But due to the ongoing conflict between many countries, many countries are facing a huge shortage of semiconductors. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has the majority of the global chip market. But the supply chain has been affected due to the trade war between China and America. At the same time, the Russia-Ukraine war has also affected the supply of semiconductors worldwide.
Meaning of semiconductor plant for India
Today, we are able to use mobile phones at the speed of 5G, which has been possible only because of semiconductors. If it is said that semiconductors have made the information technology revolution possible, then it will not be wrong. It is because of semiconductors that computers run at the speed of a storm. Semiconductors are the basis of electronic components such as transistors, diodes and integrated circuits. These components are used in computers, smartphones, televisions and other electronic devices. Semiconductors are also used in communication devices such as mobile phones, routers and switches. In the latest cars, semiconductors are used in engine control, brake systems and other electronic systems. India will consume semiconductors worth $80 billion by 2026 and this figure is estimated to reach $110 billion by 2030. In such a situation, the importance of semiconductor plants can be understood. It will play an important role in advancing the Indian economy. This will also provide employment.
