The National Conference and Congress alliance is going to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir after 15 years. Omar Abdullah is going to be crowned as the Chief Minister once again. BJP may have missed out on forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir, but it has been victorious in the Jammu division. In this way, the political edge of BJP's Hindutva and nationalist politics has not been blunted, but the separatists who had entered the valley have been wiped out. The people of Kashmir have completely rejected the separatists.

After the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, many such faces entered the fray in the assembly elections, who were earlier associated with separatism or had separatist ideology. Organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami had decided to step into the mainstream by setting aside their strategy of boycotting the elections. In the 2024 assembly elections, about 30 separatists and leaders associated with Jamaat-e-Islami were in the electoral fray, but not a single separatist leader could win the election. In this way, the results of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections have given a political message.

The results of the assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after ten years were in favour of the National Conference and Congress alliance. National Conference became the largest party by winning 42 seats and its ally Congress got 6 seats. BJP managed to win 29 seats. In this way, the Congress-National Conference alliance has returned to power with an absolute majority. National Conference has got most of the seats in the Kashmir Valley, which clearly shows that the Muslim community voted one-sidedly for the National Conference. PDP has had to bear the brunt of running the government in alliance with BJP. From the 28 seats won in 2014, PDP's seats were reduced to just three seats in Kupwara, Pulwama and Tral. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija Mufti and senior leader Mehboob Beg lost the elections. In such a situation, Omar Abdullah is going to become the Chief Minister once again.

While the National Conference dominated Kashmir, the BJP dominated the Jammu region. The BJP may not have got the key to power in Jammu and Kashmir, but it is clear that the edge of its Hindutva and nationalist politics has not been blunted. After the abolition of Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP maintained its dominance in the Jammu region and has remained invincible. In Jammu and Kashmir, 60 seats are Muslim-dominated and 30 seats are Hindu-dominated. Out of the 30 Hindu-dominated seats, the BJP managed to win 26 seats and won three seats from Muslim areas. The better performance of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir compared to the 2014 elections will not only increase the party's confidence but will also make it look aggressive.

The lieutenant governor is powerful.

Omar Abdullah may become the Chief Minister, but being a Union Territory, the Lieutenant Governor is powerful. In such a situation, the Raj Bhavan will have more say than the CM. In such a situation, if the politics of Kashmir Valley takes a turn in the future, the BJP will be in a position to do wonders there. Even after becoming the CM, Omar Abdullah will neither be able to restore Article 370 nor will he be in a position to get full statehood. Both these decisions will be taken by the Center. In such a situation, the BJP will play a very important role in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir as the main opposition party.

The public rejected the separatists.

After the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the separatists also contested the assembly elections to join mainstream politics. Jamaat-e-Islami and its supported candidates came to the field to try their luck in the Kashmir Valley. The people of Kashmir have completely rejected the separatists. Not only this, MP Engineer Rashid's party has also been wiped out. Among the separatists, Sayyar Reshi in Kulgam, Ejaz Ahmed Mir in Zainapora, Dr. Talat Majeed in Pulwama, Abdul Rehman Shala in Baramulla, Manzoor Kalu in Soporo and Kalimullah Lone from Langate have lost the elections.

Ejaz Guru suffered a crushing defeat.

Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's brother Aijaz Guru has been defeated in Sopore. Aijaz Guru got 129 votes, which is less than NOTA. Thus he lost to Engineer Rashid's brother and AIP candidate Khurshid Ahmed. Sarjan Barkati contested from Beerwah-Ganderbal but could not win and got only 418 votes. Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party had fielded 44 candidates in the assembly elections, many of whom lost their deposits. Engineer Rashid's close aide and prominent businessman Sheikh Aashiq Hussain got only 963 votes, which is less than NOTA. NOTA got 1,713 votes.

Who does the public trust?

In Jammu and Kashmir, Jamaat-e-Islami had fielded four candidates and supported four others, but apart from Reshi, all lost their deposit. Former JKLF commander Mohammad Farooq Khan, also known as Saifullah, contested from Habbakadal constituency on an SP ticket and lost to NC's Shamim Firdous. In this way, the people of the valley have given a big political message by rejecting the separatists. This clearly shows that in the changed Jammu and Kashmir, people's trust is with the mainstream political parties.
