All government schools in Odisha will be saffron in color. The state government has made a new color scheme for the buildings of government schools, under which it has decided to change the color of the schools from the earlier green and white to orange i.e. saffron, as was done by the previous BJD government. Recently, the state government changed the colour of the uniform of the students of secondary schools.

The previous BJD government had painted government schools in green and Safal colour, which is the colour of the BJD party. The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has asked all collectors-cum-chairmen of Samagra Shiksha to issue appropriate instructions to the field officers to adopt the approved colour code in all government schools including PM Shri schools during construction, repair and renovation works. This instruction is also applicable to Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas.

Which color will the school walls be painted with?

The walls of school buildings will be painted in orange frost and the edges in orange tan colour. OSEPA director Ananya Das said schools have been asked to adopt the uniform colour code from now on during construction, repair and renovation. Last year, the state government had changed the colour and design of uniforms for secondary school students from white and green to light brown and maroon under the Mukhyamantri Chhatra Paridhan Yojana. School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond had then said that the colour of school buildings would also be changed soon.

Did the previous government use its party colour?

The previous BJD government had painted various buildings from schools to hospitals and other government buildings in green colour during its tenure. Around 8,677 government schools were painted green. The state's two biggest government hospitals, Capital Hospital and SCB Medical College and Hospital, were also painted green.

In October last year, the construction department had formulated a uniform colour code for all government buildings, which called for orange colour on the outer walls and red for the boundaries of the buildings. In a letter to all engineering heads, the department said that the government has approved the adoption of the new colour code for all new government buildings and for existing buildings during periodic repair and renovation works.
