Odisha Man Murders Family Over Online Gaming Dispute, Arrested

In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old college student allegedly killed his parents and sister in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district after they opposed his addiction to online gaming, police reported on Tuesday.
The crime took place around 3 AM in Jayabada Sethi Sahi under the Jagatsinghpur Police Station area. According to Superintendent of Police Bhawani Sankar Udgata, the accused, Surjyakant Sethy, used stones or other hard objects to fatally attack his father, mother, and sister.
Motive Behind the Crime
Preliminary investigations suggest that Sethy was frustrated with his family for restricting his mobile gaming habits, Inspector-in-Charge Prabhas Sahu stated. The victims have been identified as:
- Prasant Sethy (65), also known as Kalia
- Kanaklata Sethy (62)
- Rosalin Sethy (25)
Following the murders, the accused reportedly hid near the village before being arrested by the police. SP Udgata mentioned that he may have underlying mental health issues.
Ongoing Investigation
Local MLA Amarendra Das revealed that the family had previously approached him regarding a land dispute. Meanwhile, villagers claimed that the accused admitted to committing the crime.
A forensic team, along with police officials, has initiated an investigation at the scene, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Authorities are working to gather more details regarding the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.
